It
becomes paramount in the mind of the publishers of Gofta news magazine to fully
penetrate the reasons the co-operative Society was formed. (Addressing the
issues of community development and encouraging self help programs).
Base
on this resolve, from this edition, Gofta news will be featuring different
communities at a glance. In it, we will talk about the effort of such
community, its requirements, and its intended contribution to complement
government effort.
In
this edition, we will relate some fact about the community called IDUMUJE-UNOR
in Delta State.
In our proposition to ensure the development of the well-being of the people in the communities. We the GOFTA group ensures that we visit any community that are industrious and that has effectively put in their best in any agriculture activities. We ensured they are educated and enlightened on the new method of farming and how they can improve in their productivity.
Recently,
the Gofta Group traveled a long distance to Idumuje-unior in Aniocha north
local Government area of Delta-State. This was based on the information we
heard regarding the fertile nature of the community soil and the effective and
industrial uses of the soil in the area of agriculture, by the people.
Idumuje-unor is a large community
with a large scale of fertile land. The occupation of the people is mainly
farming their main produce are cassava and yam; they can be regarded as one of
the highest cassava producing community in Delta state.
The Gofta Group arrived there on the 28th of August 2008 which coincides with their new yam festival. The Group was highly welcome by the people. Lead by the Chief security officer of the community Chief Sunday Ejenam. Rtd. Sgt Ejenam is one of the most successful farmers in the community. One much-admired thing about this community is that the people have always practiced the traditional method of farming. None the less, they have been prosperous; though not to the full potential of the soil.
The
Gofta group after stating their mission, swing into action by organizing the
people together as groups and educating them in the latest method of planting
for better yield. It was an interesting sight to see the zealousness of the
people when the program was on
During
the question and answer section in the line up, the people complained bitterly
of the government neglect to this sector of the economy.
Even
the industries around were not helping matters as they preferred to buy raw
materials outside the community; rather than patronizing their immediate
producers
In
order to encourage and boost the effort of these determined farmers, Gofta
world group promised to assist them create an open market to enable them sell
their produces with ease.
